Light
Here's a
view of the left outboard landing light, stowed and unstowed.
These
lights are actually a combo landing and taxi light. for taxi they extend all the
way, and for landing the partially extend to compensate for the angle of attack
of the aircraft when flaring. These lights also have a clutch mechanism that
blow the lights to the retracted position if the aircraft exceeds 180 knots.
They can be unstowed again under 180 knots after some switch manipulation. And
you thought they were just silly old landing lights!
